Richard Strauss Sheet Music and Biography

Richard Strauss was a German conductor, composer, violinist, and pianist. Not to be confused with any connection to the Austrian Strauss Dynasty.
He is famous for his operas and is said to have succeeded Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt.
His father was a horn player whose talent was passed onto his son which we can be seen in his horn concertos.
On music scores we have the sheet music for a French Horn trio of Strauss’s Di Rigori Armato.
Life & Career
Strauss started his career at the age of six and it continued until his death at the age of eighty-five. By the age of eighteen, he had composed one hundred and forty works.
Wagner’s music hugely impacted and influenced Strauss. He heard his first Wagner operas at the age of ten but his father forbid him from studying them. It wasn’t until he was sixteen that he was able to get hold of a Wagner score.
Another composer who was to influence Strauss was Joseph Ritter encouraging Strauss to write tone poems.
In 1894 he married soprano Pauline de Ahna and although she was known for her eccentricity and being difficult their marriage was a happy one.
His last four compositions prior to his death were focussing on the process of dying – this was a year before his actual death in September 1949.
Strauss died at the age of eighty-five leaving a musical legacy impacting 20th-century music.
