Hello Music Scorers!
This week Anne has added three arrangements of the classic folk tune Auld Lang Syne the Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788* and an additional arrangement of her very own Hedgehog Roll to add to six other arrangements of this piece.
Auld Lang Syne is traditionally sung in English speaking countries on the stroke of midnight to bid farewell to the old year. It is also sung on other occasions of saying goodbye … such as funerals and graduations.
*Unbeknown too many Burns ‘collected’ rather than ‘composed’ some of the lyrics for this song…. Many of the words are very similar to a ballad written by James Watson in 1711. He didn’t do badly from collecting!
A rough translation of the first line ‘For Auld Lang Syne’ – ‘For the Sake of Old Times’. Read more about Auld Lang Syne on our New Year blog.
